Moondeuk reads where and when the photos in your library were taken to build a travel map, and lets you save a song to each city you visited. This page lists, without exception, what Moondeuk for iPhone reads, where it keeps it, and when anything leaves your device. If this English translation and the Korean original differ, the Korean original applies.
Moondeuk has no servers. The developer keeps none of your data. There are no accounts to sign up for.
Your original photos never leave your device. They are not included in backups either. Only when you tap Share does a newly drawn image go to the app you choose — not the original file, and not its location (section 3 ⑤).
No ads, no analytics, and no tracking. No data is passed to any third party.
Data leaves your device in five cases, all listed in section 3. None of them send anything to the developer.
Want to delete your data? Section 8 lists how →
| What | From | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Capture time, photo location, original file name | The metadata of photos in your library | To work out when and where you traveled and draw your map |
| iCloud Photos identifier | Your photo library (if you use iCloud Photos) | To find the same photos again when restoring a backup on a new iPhone |
| Photo images | Your photo library | Only to show them on screen, when you share (section 3 ⑤), to attach to On This Day notifications (section 5), and to make photo stickers for the Globe tab (cutting out the subject of a photo — done only on this device) |
| Song titles and artists | What you type in | To save songs to cities |
| Title, artist, and cover of the song playing or paused in Apple Music | The Music app on this iPhone — only while Moondeuk is open, and only if you allow it | To fill in the song fields and show its cover, and to let you know "You heard this song in …" when a song you saved is playing |
| One photo you choose as a song cover | The system photo picker — only the photo you pick after tapping Add Cover | To crop it square and show it next to the saved song |
| Text you share to Moondeuk from a music app (title and artist) | The iOS share sheet — only when you share a song from an app such as Melon and choose Moondeuk | To fill in the song fields. Any link that comes with it is never opened. One song is kept on this device until you save it, and discarded after a week |
| Trip names and similar | What you type in |
By default, on this device only, in storage that only Moondeuk can read.
Only if you back up, a copy of your travel records is also stored in your own iCloud, in a private area for this app that other apps cannot read — and neither can the developer.
A backup contains:
Not included: original photos, photo images, song covers, or globe stickers. A song cover is a square copy kept only on this device when you import a song from Apple Music or choose a photo as its cover. A globe sticker is a small copy of a photo's subject, cut out on this device.
Coordinates alone don't say "Busan" or "Kyoto", so Moondeuk asks Apple's location service (geocoding) about representative coordinates.
When you open a trip or city, an Apple map appears at the top. To draw it, map tiles for the visible area are downloaded from Apple, so Apple can tell which area's map was requested.
The contents described in section 2 are sent to your own iCloud. This includes the coordinates of places you traveled. The app talks to iCloud directly, never through a developer server.
Tapping a song opens a search in the music app you chose (Apple Music, Melon, YouTube Music, or Spotify). At that moment the song title and artist are passed to that app (or its web page) as a search term. Moondeuk does not play music itself and does not connect to music services directly.
When you tap Share, one image newly drawn on the device is handed to the iOS share sheet, and the app you choose (Messages, social apps, Save Image, and so on) receives it. There are two shareable images:
For both:
Nothing else leaves your device. Nothing is ever sent to a developer server.
Moondeuk Premium (monthly and yearly subscriptions, and Lifetime) is paid through the App Store and processed by Apple.
A Premium feature that sends you, in the evening, a photo taken in a city years ago today along with the song you saved to it.
When you lock a trip, opening it requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
None.
Data on your device is kept until you delete it. The developer keeps no data, so there is nothing to delete on the developer's side.
| What | How |
|---|---|
| All records in the app | Me › Data › Delete All Records |
| Your iCloud backup | Settings › Apple Account › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Moondeuk › Delete Data |
| Photo access | Settings › Apps › Moondeuk › Photos |
| Notifications | Settings › Apps › Moondeuk › Notifications |
| Apple Music access | Settings › Apps › Moondeuk › Media & Apple Music |
Deleting the app also deletes the data on the device. Your iCloud backup must be deleted separately as above.
There is no retention period after deletion. The developer keeps no data, so once you delete it, it is gone. A backup copy exists only in your own iCloud, so deleting it leaves nothing behind.
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Photos | Reading the capture metadata of photos in your library. Allowing only selected photos works too. Read only |
| Notifications | On This Day notifications. Optional |
| Face ID | Opening locked trips (section 6) |
| Media & Apple Music | Importing the song playing in Apple Music when adding a song, and checking whether a saved song is playing while Moondeuk is open (section 1). Optional, and asked only when you tap the import button. Your library is never browsed or changed |
Permissions Moondeuk never asks for: location, camera, microphone, contacts, writing to your photo library, and app tracking.
Moondeuk is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
When this policy changes, this page and its "Last updated" date are updated. Significant changes in how data is handled will also be announced in the app.
